For any connoisseur of contemporary art, whether from Downtown Miami or within the country or abroad, one great art museum that must not be missed is the Miami Art Museum. It is located at the same Miami Cultural Plaza as the Historical Museum of Southern Florida and there are plans to relocate it to the Bicentennial Park along with the Miami Science Museum.
The exhibition space of the museum is covered in three galleries in distinct series, the Upper Level houses only large-scale exhibitions, and it's magnitude is a first of it's kind in South Florida. The Plaza Level presents the permanent exhibits thematically and showcases Miami based artists from a global perspective, the New Work Gallery series displays new works by major contemporary artists.
The forte of the Miami Art Museum is looking at international art from the viewpoint of the United States, visitors of all ages and temperaments, visitors can also enjoy reading, writing and other activities.
