The history of the Lowe Art Museum, located in Coral Gables, it was 1950 when it started in three classrooms in the University of Miami, since then the museum has been maintained and updated by the university and has grown into a place that houses 5000 years of art history and it's rich collections cater to a multicultural audience from national and international shores, throughout the year there are numerous stimulating programmes, events and exhibitions, besides several temporary and travelling exhibitions.
The museum received accreditation from the American Association of Museums in 1972, being the first university art museum in the United States with that honour and in 1990 was designated as a major cultural institution of Florida.
The Lowe Art Museum has over 16,000 exhibits on display, with it's speciality being it's permanent collection ranging Graeco-Roman antiquities, Renaissance, Baroque, modern art and also art of Ancient and Native Americans, of Asia, Latin America and Europe of the 17th and the 19th centuries.
