The Art Museum at Florida International University started as a student gallery in 1977 and has grown in dimension and scope into one of Florida’s major cultural institutions and voted as “Miami’s Best Museum” in 1993, 1994 and 1996. The museum was accredited by the American Association of Museums in 1999 and renamed as the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum or in short, Frost Art Museum in 2004.
Frost Art Museum’s speciality lies in it's unparalleled collection of Latin American and 20th century American artefacts and is a paradise for any art love, the museum conatins the university’s permanent art collection, temporary exhibits and lectures and as a recent major endeavour, it initiated an outdoor sculpture programme, where 57 exhibits by leading sculptors in contemporary art are showcased.
The museum is all set to get a new building from November 2008, at the ‘Avenue of the Arts’, a mall connecting the museum, the Wertheim Performing Arts Center and the Management and Advanced Research Centre.
