The Freedom Tower is a historic landmark building in Miami and has for a long time been a place of attraction for tourists, it has a particularly nostalgic association for the immigrant Cuban residents, this Mediterranean Revival style building was originally built in 1925 and housed the headquarters of a Miami newspaper, News & Metropolis.
It came to prominence in the 1960s when almost half million Cubans came over to Miami following Fidel Castro’s coming to power and it had acted as a refugee centre for the homeless Cubans. The Freedom Tower was added to the U.S.
National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and currently acts as an art gallery and displays exhibitions through the Miami Art Museum, for enthusiasts in Cuban history, the restored building of the Freedom Tower houses a museum and library, besides offices of the Cuban American National Federation and serves as a monument for the Cuban community.
